Carmichael, California - After being flooded in a storm on Sunday, one of Carmichael's woodworking shop was still drying up on Wednesday.

The owner is cleaning up the mess because tools worth thousands of dollars may have been destroyed.

"We didn't expect it to get so high," said Alicia Castro, owner of Orange House Wood Studio. "I can not believe it."

Castro’s backyard is located near Arcade Creek along the Winding Way in Carmichael, a stream notorious for flooding. She said that whenever it rained, the creek would flood and fill up her yard. But even after living there for seven years, she said it has never been as bad as last weekend.

This time, she said that she could almost touch the water from the 10-foot-high balcony because it filled her yard.

"I have a swimming pool in my backyard," Castro said.

Two of Castro's cars were flooded, her basement was full of water, but the most serious was her home carpentry studio. Castro said her husband had just built a three-foot-high wall outside the studio to prevent flooding.

"All our tools are submerged in water," Castro said. "We thought that if the flood flooded, it would not pass this last step, but in fact it would pass the entire wall."

Castro opened Orange House Wood Studio in January and gradually received more and more equipment to complete orders. They make custom, hand-made cutting boards and deli boards.

Castro said: "Our tools, wood and woodworking machines are flooded, which makes us unable to accept custom orders." "This is a big setback for us, especially during the upcoming holidays and Christmas. Festival is approaching."

She explained that the insurance will cover any damage to the interior of the house, but not the open-air studio and any valuables inside.

Castro said: "We did a lot of cleaning and picking up to see what we can do."

Although the husband and wife team is still in the process of finding which equipment can be saved, Castro has launched a GoFundMe to try to get back on his feet before the holiday. She said the damage has not completely disappeared.

"Yes, these days have been very difficult," Castro said. "It takes time."
